Some look like highlighters, while others resemble USB keys. Despite their varying appearances, they all contain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A reservoir holding the vaping liquid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A battery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A heating element<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-what-is-in-vaping-liquid-163\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-what-is-in-vaping-liquid-163\">\r\n            What is in vaping liquid?        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-what-is-in-vaping-liquid-163\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">Contrary to popular belief, water is rarely found in vaping liquid\u2014and if it is, it is only present in small amounts. Instead, the liquid contains chemicals and often nicotine. However, adolescence is a key time for experimenting with vaping, which is why it\u2019s important to discuss it with your teen.\n\nAs soon as they start high school, teens may see their friends vaping. Vapes have become a trendy accessory and a new way to consume nicotine, attracting even teens who would never have smoked cigarettes.\n\nMost teens get vaping products from people they know. Many report that most, if not all, of their friends vape. Curiosity and peer pressure are common reasons why young people start vaping.\n\nOpening the conversation with your teen can help them understand the realities of vaping and resist the urge to try it.<\/p>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-what-are-the-health-risks-of-vaping-567\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-what-are-the-health-risks-of-vaping-567\">\r\n            What are the health risks of vaping?        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-what-are-the-health-risks-of-vaping-567\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">Vaping poses risks to both physical and mental health.\n\nOn one hand, the risks are related to nicotine.\n\nNicotine use carries risks, regardless of the amount consumed. In the short term, it can alter brain development, and harm memory and concentration. Nicotine can also negatively affect:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sleep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy levels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appetite<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">Teenage brains are still developing and are more sensitive to the effects of nicotine than adult brains. Nicotine can create a powerful addiction, which can be very difficult to overcome. Addiction develops gradually and often goes unnoticed. It can occur even if a teen does not vape daily. The table below explains how nicotine affects teens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\"><strong>How does nicotine affect teens?<\/strong>&nbsp; <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Physical Level<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Psychological Level<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Behavioural Level<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Teens experience a temporary feeling of well-being. When the body is deprived of nicotine, withdrawal symptoms such as headaches and difficulty concentrating may occur. <\/td><td>Young people may associate vaping with a reward or use it as a way to manage their emotions. Some believe vaping reduces stress, but in reality, it is not an effective strategy. <\/td><td>Young people can associate vaping with habits, people, or activities. For example, teens see recess as a time for vaping. On the other hand, the risks are related to vaping itself. Even if the liquid does not contain nicotine, vaping is still harmful. The chemicals in vaping devices affect the respiratory system, causing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Coughing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mucus in the airways<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shortness of breath<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wheezing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">The medium- and long-term effects of vaping remain unknown. However, this does not mean that vaping is safe. It took decades to prove that smoking causes cancer.\n\nGiven these uncertainties, it is best to avoid vaping, whether the products are legal or not. The Minist\u00e8re de la Sant\u00e9 et des Services sociaux has issued&nbsp; a warning about vaping products, both with and without nicotine. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-flavoured-vaping-products-legal-or-not-721\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-flavoured-vaping-products-legal-or-not-721\">\r\n            Flavoured vaping products: legal or not?        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-flavoured-vaping-products-legal-or-not-721\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">Since October 31, 2023, the sale of flavoured vaping products (other than tobacco flavour) has been illegal in Qu\u00e9bec. Unflavoured products remain available. This law aims to reduce the appeal of vaping for minors.\n\nDespite this ban, between December 2023 and May 2024, 62% of Qu\u00e9bec teens who vaped used flavoured products. Some retailers in Qu\u00e9bec sell \u201cflavour enhancers\u201d to get around the law. Additionally, flavoured vaping products from Ontario, where they are legal, enter the province freely.<\/p>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-do-vapes-contain-as-much-nicotine-as-cigarettes-857\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-do-vapes-contain-as-much-nicotine-as-cigarettes-857\">\r\n            Do vapes contain as much nicotine as cigarettes?        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-do-vapes-contain-as-much-nicotine-as-cigarettes-857\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">The nicotine content varies based on the concentration in the liquid and the number of cartridges used. By law, the nicotine concentration in vaping liquid is limited to 20 mg\/ml, which is equivalent to about 10 cigarettes (half a pack). However, multiple cartridges can be consumed in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-how-to-tell-the-difference-between-a-nicotine-vape-and-a-cannabis-vape-waxpen-524\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-how-to-tell-the-difference-between-a-nicotine-vape-and-a-cannabis-vape-waxpen-524\">\r\n            How to tell the difference between a nicotine vape and a cannabis vape (waxpen)?        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-how-to-tell-the-difference-between-a-nicotine-vape-and-a-cannabis-vape-waxpen-524\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">It\u2019s&nbsp;difficult to&nbsp;identify&nbsp;the substance used by just looking at the vape. T&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although some brands are made specifically for vaping cannabis, the only&nbsp;real way&nbsp;to know what is inside is to test its contents. Discuss their sources of stress and how they can manage them.
