Hopefully, this will give you some insight into what is going on with your teen, and maybe even anticipate what lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"highlight-box box-style-orange\">\r\n    <div class=\"row align-items-center\">\r\n        <div class=\"col\">\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<h2 class=\"title-icon h2\">\r\n    <span class=\"title-icon-icon\">\r\n       <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-triangle-exclamation\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>    <\/span>\r\n    Attention!<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Before reading on, remember that each person is unique. It is entirely possible and normal that young people develop at different rates. Not everyone hits every milestone at exactly the same time. I\u2019m starting to develop more control over my body.<\/li>\n\n<li>My awareness of the position and movement of my body in space is changing. I\u2019m sometimes clumsier or feel bigger or smaller than I actually am.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">What\u2019s happening inside my head<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019m living in the moment.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m capable of logical reasoning based on concrete operations and visible\/measurable facts.<\/li>\n\n<li>My intellectual interests are expanding: I love to learn!<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m trying to conform to social norms, to be like others.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m able to consider different perspectives, but I still make choices based on my personal interests.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m starting to test rules and boundaries.<\/li>\n\n<li>I have questions about puberty and sexuality.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m curious about the adult world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">What\u2019s happening inside my heart<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019m developing an interest in attracting others and flirting, and starting to have romantic and sexual fantasies.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m craving more independence.<\/li>\n\n<li>I need approval from others, including my parents (even if I don\u2019t always let on that I do).<\/li>\n\n<li>I can sometimes be impulsive and have mood swings.<\/li>\n\n<li>I can sometimes feel embarrassed or worried about the changes happening in my body.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m worried about being normal.<\/li>\n\n<li>I care about my appearance and what other people think about me.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m starting to assert my identity and my tastes more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">What\u2019s happening with others<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My friends are mostly like me.<\/li>\n\n<li>My friends are starting to become more and more important in my life and have more influence over me.<\/li>\n\n<li>I have a growing urge for independence.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m having more conflicts with my parents.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m starting to do odd jobs for money: babysitting, mowing the lawn, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">My main challenges<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dealing with puberty.<\/li>\n\n<li>Forming a positive body image.<\/li>\n\n<li>Exploring my identity.<\/li>\n\n<li>Solidifying my feeling of academic achievement.<\/li>\n\n<li>Building meaningful friendships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\"><em>Inspired by Tessier, C. and Corneau, L. 2017. I go to sleep later and get up later.<\/li>\n\n<li>My sexuality is growing. I\u2019m discovering more sensations related to desire and sexual excitement.<\/li>\n\n<li>I take more risks than before (climbing structures, crossing the street at the wrong place, doing stunts, refusing to wear protective sports gear, etc.).<\/li>\n\n<li>I could be looking for new experiences and sensations: activities, substance consumption, sexuality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">In my head<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019m increasingly able to make assumptions and think about abstract things.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019ve developed my ability to anticipate consequences and weigh the for and against, but I still have difficulty in taking everything into consideration in order to make an objective decision.<\/li>\n\n<li>I understand social obligations and the concept of legality, but I still do not completely understand the reason for these obligations.<\/li>\n\n<li>I test rules, limits and social conventions.<\/li>\n\n<li>I think about my identity and question it. I test various facets of it. It\u2019s the beginning of the identity crisis.<\/li>\n\n<li>I may have a feeling of being invincible. I still maintain magical thinking, such as \u201cit only happens to other people.\u201d<\/li>\n\n<li>I seek rewards, pleasures and sensations.<\/li>\n\n<li>I may be concerned about my physical appearance, but I begin to adapt to the changes that my body is experiencing with puberty.<\/li>\n\n<li>I ask questions, or wonder about sexuality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">In my heart<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I become more secretive. I need more privacy.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m very committed to my friends.<\/li>\n\n<li>I have a strong feeling of being part of a group, a team, and identify with it.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m very sensitive to social influences.<\/li>\n\n<li>I need the approval of others and fear rejection.<\/li>\n\n<li>When I\u2019m nervous, I may act like a child again in order to reassure myself.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m experiencing more and more different feelings and with great intensity. Sometimes I have difficulty in understanding them.<\/li>\n\n<li>I have mood swings and can be impulsive.<\/li>\n\n<li>My interest in love and sexuality is growing. I may experience my first romantic and sexual relationships.<\/li>\n\n<li>I may question my sexual orientation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">With others<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My friends are very, very, very important! I conform to their values. On the other hand, I may move away from my family values.<\/li>\n\n<li>My group of friends becomes more mixed (boys and girls).<\/li>\n\n<li>I experience more and more conflicts with my parents. It\u2019s normal, I\u2019m trying to create my own identity!<\/li>\n\n<li>I may do some odd jobs for money: babysitting, cutting grass, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">My main challenges<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adapting to high school.<\/li>\n\n<li>Making positive connections with others while respecting diversity.<\/li>\n\n<li>Affirming my identity.<\/li>\n\n<li>Consolidating my feeling of academic competence.<\/li>\n\n<li>Establishing significant friendships.<\/li>\n\n<li>Choosing a healthy lifestyle.<\/li>\n\n<li>Dealing with social influences when making choices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\"><em>Based on Tessier, C. and L. In fact, I\u2019m almost at the peak of my physical form!<\/li>\n\n<li>I take more risks in my behaviours (climbing structures, crossing the street at the wrong place, doing stunts, refusing to wear protective sports gear, etc.).<\/li>\n\n<li>I may have experienced my first sexual relations with someone.<\/li>\n\n<li>I may have tried to consume certain substances (alcohol, drugs and tobacco, including electronic cigarettes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">In my head<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019ve developed my judgement and ability to make informed decisions, to plan and resolve problems.<\/li>\n\n<li>I begin to be able to set more concrete and realistic life goals.<\/li>\n\n<li>I begin to be able to compromise and establish limits.<\/li>\n\n<li>I begin to understand things from different points of view.<\/li>\n\n<li>I begin to be able to think about social obligations and to question them.<\/li>\n\n<li>I understand the concepts of justice, dignity, rights and social solidarity.<\/li>\n\n<li>I affirm my own identity.<\/li>\n\n<li>I ask questions and wonder about sexuality. These questions may be related to my own or other people\u2019s experiences.<\/li>\n\n<li>My sense of responsibility and independence are increasing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"accordion-content\">In my heart<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My values (social, moral, religious, sexual, etc.) are becoming more sophisticated.<\/li>\n\n<li>I\u2019m becoming more selective in choosing my friends.
