All young people can become victims of intimate partner violence regardless their sex, gender, sexual orientation and culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whatever form violence takes in an intimate relationship, physical, psychological, verbal, or sexual, it scars the victim and can lead to a multitude of consequences on their mental, physical and sexual health, such as a more negative self-perception, psychological distress, anxiety or substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several possible actions can contribute to reducing the incidence of intimate partner violence. As parents, you therefore play a crucial role in preventing and countering incidences of violence in young people\u2019s intimate relationships.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom container-bg-color-white\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top container-bg-color-gray-light\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content has-background has-gray-light-background-color container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n<div class=\"highlight-box box-style-black\">\r\n    <div class=\"row align-items-center\">\r\n        <div class=\"col\">\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<h2 class=\"title-icon h2\">\r\n    <span class=\"title-icon-icon\">\r\n       <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-users\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>    <\/span>\r\n    Violence and teens in the Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie region<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>37 % of young people\u00a0who have had an intimate relationship\u00a0have experienced violent behaviours\u00a0perpetrated by their partners;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>19 % of young people\u00a0who have had an intimate relationship\u00a0have acted violently\u00a0towards their partners;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological violence&nbsp;is the&nbsp;most common form of violence suffered and inflicted&nbsp;in romantic relationships involving young people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom container-bg-color-gray-light\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be there for my teen<\/h2>\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"accordions-block\">\r\n        \n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-communication-487\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-communication-487\">\r\n            <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-comment-dots fa-xl\"><\/i>Communication        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-communication-487\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Talk to your teen about consent, respect and equality; you\u2019ll give them the key ingredients for healthy, safe and harmonious relationships!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using a caring approach, talk to your teen about the various ways violence can show up in an intimate relationship, how to recognize it and the resources available to them if they become a victim, a perpetrator of or a witness to violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage your teen to call out violence in intimate relationships and talk about how they can help combat the violence (for example, what they can do if they witness violence in an intimate relationship).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you notice changes in your teen\u2019s behaviour or attitude since the beginning of their romantic relationship (irritability, isolation, low self-esteem), make them aware of your concerns in an open, non-judgmental way and don\u2019t hesitate to ask for help.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-support-299\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-support-299\">\r\n            <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-thumbs-up fa-xl\"><\/i>Support        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-support-299\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Listen to your teen and their needs and offer them your support while respecting their boundaries. Pay attention to the signs of intimate partner violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work with your teen to develop and strengthen their confidence and self-esteem. For example, point out their strengths and encourage them to establish boundaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Together with your teen, come up with alternatives to violence and explore how they can express their emotions and resolve conflicts while maintaining self-respect and respect for the other person. Support them in developing their skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your teen reveals experiencing intimate partner violence, welcome your teen\u2019s confidences with empathy, caring, seriousness and without judgment. Remind them that they are not responsible for the abuse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether your teen is the victim or the perpetrator of the intimate partner violence, make sure they get the help they need (health professional, school counsellor).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-supervision-guidance-350\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-supervision-guidance-350\">\r\n            <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-eye fa-xl\"><\/i>Supervision\/Guidance        <\/a>\r\n    <\/h3>\r\n    <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-supervision-guidance-350\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n        \n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set clear limits with your teen between what respectful behaviours and unacceptable behaviours are in romantic relationships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report all forms of violence in an intimate relationship and intervene if you witness such behaviours, in particular by providing your help to the victim or the witness and by helping the perpetrator resolve their violent actions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with the school and the other settings they attend to prevent and intervene in situations of violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n    <h3 class=\"accordion-title\">\r\n        <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-at-home-965\" aria-expanded=\"false\" valued.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster a trusting atmosphere at home so that your teen will want to confide in you and ask for your help if they are in difficulty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adopt a zero-tolerance attitude toward all forms of violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\r\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco teen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a positive model for your teen by making sure your relationships, with your partner and the other members of your family, are healthy, harmonious and short<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many young people experience violence in their intimate relationships. This can be a difficult topic to discuss, but it\u2019s crucial that you talk about it with your teen. It\u2019s also of utmost importance that you guide them in developing healthy and inclusive relationships and that you actively engage them in preventing violence. Absolutely no form of violence can be tolerated!
