It is what influences our choices, behaviours, actions, and reactions. Our identity changes throughout our life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In adolescence, teenagers are eager to know who they really are. They feel an increasing need to shape their own identity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, teenagers learn a lot about themselves, and about others, their community, and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They explore and experiment with many facets of their identity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their tastes and preferences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their opinions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their values<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their strengths and weaknesses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their sexuality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their dreams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom container-bg-color-white\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But they still need you!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To shape their identity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They compare their points of view with those of their parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They observe themselves and observe other people\u2019s reactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They experiment more outside of home.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their desire to conform to or reject social norms is increasing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They sometimes do things to be more like their friends\u2026 and less like their parents!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if teens don\u2019t show it, they are reassured by their parents\u2019 presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a teenager\u2019s sense of identity in full flux, their self-esteem can sometimes go up and down like a roller coaster. The more positive and rewarding experiences a teenager has, the stronger their identity and the better their self-esteem will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized is-style-texture-rectangle\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/enmodeado.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/mieux-comprendre-primaire-secondaire-e1748899050572-1024x584.jpg\" alt=\"Un gar\u00e7on fait un c\u00e2lin \u00e0 sa m\u00e8re par derri\u00e8re, et ils se regardent.\" class=\"wp-image-1153\" style=\"object-fit:contain;width:1130px;height:396px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top container-bg-color-white\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content has-background has-white-background-color container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n<div class=\"highlight-box box-style-dark\">\r\n    <div class=\"row align-items-center\">\r\n        <div class=\"col\">\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\r\n<h3 class=\"title-icon h2\">\r\n    <span class=\"title-icon-icon\">\r\n       <i class=\"fa-classic fa-regular fa-question\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>    <\/span>\r\n    Did you know that&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Identity and self-esteem evolve in lockstep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie region, teenagers who participate in family, school or community activities are more likely to have high self-esteem than teens.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"text-media-logo overflow-x-hidden\">\r\n    <div class=\"row g-0 align-items-center\">\r\n        <div class=\"col-xl-7\">\r\n            <div class=\"text-media-logo-content container-eklo-content\">\r\n                <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To be open\u2011minded and to adapt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The highs and lows of adolescence can be a challenge, for both teens and parents!\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some teens question their parents\u2019 values. They walk the line between wanting to embrace traditional family values and wanting to be different from their parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The older they get, the more teenagers make choices that truly reflect who they are.\u00a0 They may change their minds several times about the things they feel strongly.  Their choices may also differ from what you would like or may even worry you. That is because they are asserting their own identity and starting to pull away from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a parent, it is not easy to accept that your teenager is becoming their own independent person.  And that means letting them have their own experiences and learning from their mistakes\u2014and their successes! The best way forward is to talk to them calmly and respectfully and to let them know their home is a safe space.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n            <\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n                    <div class=\"col-xl\" data-aos=\"fade-left\" data-aos-delay=\"100\">\r\n                                    <div class=\"text-media-logo-image\">\r\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/enmodeado.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/pere-adolescent.jpg\" alt=\"Un p\u00e8re et son fils ayant une discussion.\">\r\n                    <\/div>\r\n                            <\/div>\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom container-bg-color-white\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be there for your teen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Here are some things you can do to guide your teenager boost their self-esteem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Show an interest in the things they like and do, and in their hopes and aspirations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Talk to your teen and ask them for their opinions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage them to assert themselves, identify and defend their limits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give them the opportunity to make decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Let them know you trust them but continue to question their actions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pick your battles and accept the fact that you cannot always get involved, so that they can learn from experiences for themselves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guide them by setting limits or occasionally expressing doubts or concerns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accept that they will change their mind and sometimes learn by trial and error.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help them identify and apply solutions on their own.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remind them that you are always there for them if they need you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-bottom\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n    <div class=\"container-deco deco-top container-bg-color-white\">\r\n            <\/div>\r\n<section class=\"container-eklo add-table-content has-background has-white-background-color container-padding-4em\">\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n                <div class=\"container-eklo-content eklo-deco\" >\r\n            <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical resources and tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.
